INTO POD rooms offer versatile retreat spaces at Staria's premises in Logomo, Turku

Business solutions for growth companies Starian the premises were designed as a functional office for the financial administration staff in Turku. The premises are located in an old machine maintenance hall in Logomo, with an area of approximately 600 square metres. The space was designed by interior designer Paula Kallio.

The design of the large open office space presented its own challenges, as Staria has three separate teams working in the premises, which were wanted to be independent units. INTO POD rooms of different sizes were used to group activities and divide the space.

"INTO's one-person retreats work well as a space divider between different groups. They provide privacy and are easy-to-use units for telephone work", says designer Paula Kallio. "Because of their high occupancy rate, good ventilation, lighting and acoustics were important selection criteria. The electrical installation was designed to allow the customer to move the INTO booths to a new location whenever necessary. The INTOs are also well maintained from above, which is important as the site has a large loft with a view over the whole space.".

"It's great that the manufacturer offers different sizes of retraction spaces. This way I was able to create a cohesive look for this large, tall space by combining one- and four-person retreats.", says interior designer Paula Kallio.

The history of the Logomo space, the red brick walls and the concrete floor guided the colour scheme. Black, grey and terracotta needed to be juxtaposed with freshness and the warmth of nature. The POD rooms were painted in timeless white, elegant grey and, at the client's request, light wood. The wooden surfaces also add a much-needed softness to the space, while the INTO POD rooms' exterior wall panels improve the acoustics of the large space.

"The choice of materials and colours for the retreats must be made carefully, as they have such a big impact on the comfort of the employee. INTO retreats offer a wide range of wood surface options. The client has foreign visitors, so they came up with the nice idea of bringing birch logs into the office. We named the INTO rooms after Finnish trees - a bit of exoticism for the guests", Paula smiles.

The Logomo has very strict security regulations, for example in terms of fire safety, and the client has a high level of data security, so the retreat facilities had to be of high quality and secure.

"The customer is very satisfied with their space. The INTO screening rooms made my work much easier in terms of space, colour, lighting, acoustics and material design.", says Paula.
