INTO sofas for better acoustics and functional spaces
The refurbished UniCafe Kaivopiha opened in autumn 2019, looking even more functional and intact. The largest student restaurant in Helsinki, UniCafe Kaivopiha is visited by more than 2 000 people every day. The aim of the renovation was to make the space more functional, cosier and less noisy. The noise issue was addressed by choosing flooring materials with good step sound characteristics and by adding elements that improve the acoustics, such as thick wool curtains.

On the furniture side, INTO POINT sofa solutions were chosen to improve the sound environment. The upholstered sofas add softness and improve acoustics. The sofas' high quality wool fabric backs and wipe-clean seats add much-needed colour and are easy to clean. The sofas are recycled and have had limited trade fair use, with the seat parts re-upholstered in wipe-clean fabric. The sofa slats divide the large space and at the same time ground some of the loose furniture from the tables and small chairs in place in front of the sofas. The sofas are sized to be the right height for dining and are also slim enough for longer periods of sitting and studying.

In a separate, cosy dark-toned cabinet, sofas provide extra seating as the chairs at the meeting table fill up. The sofa meeting room also works well as a stage for small private events, as well as an extension of the restaurant space.

Underneath the renovation, a new UniCafe was revealed, serving its customers better than ever.
